Ayrshire MSP and Shadow Culture Minister Sharon Dowey has said that Angus Robertson’s use of false statistics on international visits has “damaged” Scotland’s reputation abroad.
Sharon is urging Angus Robertson to admit to and apologise for the use of false statistics on Scotland’s offshore wind potential, in the knowledge that they were inaccurate.
Sharon has said that peddling false statistics is damaging to Scotland’s reputation, and that the public expect better from a Cabinet Secretary in charge of promoting the country abroad.
Commenting, Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Sharon Dowey said:
“At the Scottish Affairs Committee in Westminster this week, Angus Robertson failed once again to take responsibility for peddling false statistics on international visits.
“It’s one thing using inaccurate statistics, but using them in the knowledge that they were false is completely unacceptable. It only serves to damage Scotland’s reputation and undermine trust in politics and Scottish government officials.
“Yet, given numerous opportunities to admit to this and apologise, Angus has failed to do so.
“When Angus Robertson makes an international visit, he is there to represent and promote Scotland. That’s why I’m urging Angus to be absolutely certain that the information he provides on these visits is accurate. Otherwise, it’s Scotland’s reputation that will suffer."
